The two authors are enthusiastic lace makers who reconstruct historical lace for reworking. In the first part they introduce Christian Traugott Grimm (1792 - 1828). At the beginning of the 19th century, he had already created a comprehensive teaching aid for lace making. Maria Kilian transcribed his manuscripts and, together with Claudia Schuster, adapted them to today's language. Thus, 200 years after the handwritten version of the textbook, the authors were able to publish the transcribed and summarised form. The reproduced instructional marerial, mainly for tulle, was systematically laid out with a steadily increasing degree of difficulty. C.T. Grimm was a perfectionist, and his expectations of the lace makers were correspondingly high. He supplemented his pictorial language with accurate thread drawings, using different colours, which should make reworking easier. Using the original drawings by C.T. Grimm, the authors have redrawn 14 bobbin lace letters in their original size. All have been copied and illustrated, together with the plates from Grimm's instructions. The instructive booklet with history and very beautiful bobbin lace motifs is absolutely worth reading. The transcribed writings can be viewed at
