Lace-making was for centuries a major source of income for lace makers, the bobbin lace bobbin lace shopkeepers and traders in the West Schleswig area.
Working with the fine thread flat contributed to livelihood in the women who were engaged in the manufacture of lace, and for the more senior men offered trading in lace opportunities for acquiring wealth and prestige.
This book is intended as an introduction to the world of lace, a world that we in the West Schleswig in the period 17 up into the 20th Vorfand century. The book deals with the social conditions in connection with the bobbin lace making, by hand labor, with the equipment, but also with the fashion and the buyers of the tips. The last part of the book deals with the present conditions, where hardly anyone eats with the manufacture of lace, but where many find young and old, enjoy working with the beautiful patterns.
